Nothing left to Believe in...
The first thing to say is that I never really believed in anything in the first place, not in institutions anyway, not as far as they have ever affected me.
But let's leave that aside for the nonce. What I don't believe in now is even more important in that it has to do not only with me, the forgotten angry blue-collar white man, but also with everyone else.
Let me describe to you a United States wherein all three branches of government are controlled by a single party that seems, as far as anyone can tell, to be completely unmoored from anything like rational principle.
I give you an executive branch run by a liar, a man who has no regard whatsoever for the truth, who blabbers incoherent nonsense not as an occasional accident, but rather, as the keel with which he parts the waters of mass communication. My chief executive is a semi-literate buffoon at best. Only a fool would ask me to believe in him.
I give you a legislative branch that seems largely cowed by the fraudulent executive with whom it has made a devil's bargain. A legislative dominated by intellectual and moral cowards who know, one suspects, what is right, but who capitulate what little moral standing they might have in the name of team loyalty.
These men and women are cowards and will ultimately be recognized by history as the servile creatures that they are.
Meanwhile, our judicial branch has been undermined as well. How are we to believe in anything the US Supreme Court says when we know for a fact that its appointment process has basically been pillaged by a partisan legislature run amok?
Ultimately, there is nothing left to believe in.
The president is a liar, the legislature is dominated by a party that favors its own interests over the US Constitution, and the judicial has been illegally manipulated through blatant disregard for what the framers intended.
As a tradesman, I work hard every day for a few dollars to help my family. When all three of our branches of government smell like shit, what do I have left?
Nothing, that's what I have.
More to say in my next post....
